Hardwood floor alternatives that are less expensive and won't break the bank. hardwood doesn't work for all circumstances nor all budgets. so, i wanted to provide my top 5 alternatives to hardwood flooring. some of these options will solve water/moisture issues, some will save you money...and some will do both.. Engineered wood floor ($7-$11/sq. ft.) a second option is to install an engineered wood floor. this flooring comes in strips similiar to traditional wood, but it’s about half the thickness. it’s composed of real wood plies, similiar to plywood, with a top veneer layer of whatever wood species you want.. I think the flooring on this list of 5 beautiful herringbone wood floor alternatives that looks the most like our master bathroom flooring is the sonoma driftwood ceramic wood tile in gray which i have sourced first on our list! wayfair’s shuffle wood tile in ash is also similar to our bathroom tile and if laid in a herringbone pattern, or even a classic pattern, it would be a gorgeous wood.
