I've done about 10 ipe decks in the past few years and the system for fastening that i've found works the best is to drill a 3/8 pilot hole and countersink for #8 x 1 1/2 deck screws and then make wood plugs from the ipe and use gorilla glue or other polyurethane glue to install the wood plugs.. Being one of the hardest woods in the world, when screwing down ipe decking you must first pliot drill your holes using a "smart bit"!.

Any special drill bits etc to predrill and countersink on ipe decking..or can use usual with a corded drill?? also, what kind and length of recommended screws?? many thx bcbet. The wood is easy to work with and does not damage drill bits or blades. ipe sawdust is considered toxic due to silica and toxic chemicals. installers should use protective equipment to avoid potential infection..
